Gonaboy

Abdul-Razak Muniru Gona, professionally known as Gonaboy, is a Ghanaian musician born on June 10, 1999. Originally from a small village in Ghana's Upper West Region, his life journey has taken him across several cities, including Kumasi, Berekum, Sunyani, and Techiman in the Bono East Region, where he spent much of his upbringing.

A graduate of the University of Ghana (2026), Gonaboy's journey into music was never a carefully calculated decision. Rather, music became a natural expression of his life experiences, shaped by the challenges, pain, resilience, ambition, and everyday realities of his environment. Through his music, he transforms personal experiences and observations into relatable stories that connect with listeners.

Gonaboy first gained widespread attention with his 2023 single “Abele,” which grew into a street anthem and introduced his sound to a wider Ghanaian audience. Drawing inspiration from American hip-hop, African drill culture, and contemporary African sounds, he blends gritty storytelling, infectious flows, African rhythms, and local slang to create a distinctive musical identity.

He further strengthened his presence with “Same Timbs,” his breakout record of 2025, which captured attention through its infectious sound, relatable themes, and conversations around friendship, betrayal, ambition, and the hustle of everyday life. The song marked an important turning point in his career, expanding his audience and establishing him as an emerging voice to watch in Ghana's music scene.

On October 24, 2025, Gonaboy released his debut EP, MUNIRU, a defining project that introduced listeners to a deeper understanding of his artistry, personal journey, and musical direction. The project showcased his versatility and ability to explore different sounds while maintaining the authenticity that defines his music.

Beyond his recorded music, Gonaboy has also established a special connection with his audience through Bilivas Concert, his annual live music experience created for his fans and everyone who appreciates his music. The inaugural edition took place in December 2025, marking his debut headline concert and bringing his music, energy, and growing community together for a memorable experience. Through Bilivas Concert, Gonaboy aims to create an annual platform where he can connect directly with his supporters, celebrate his musical journey, and give fans the opportunity to experience his artistry beyond streaming platforms. Inspired by the philosophy “Bilivas, Big Spirit Is Alive,” the concert represents the energy, ambition, and community behind his brand.

In 2026, Gonaboy continued building on this momentum with notable releases including “Hollata Story” and “Mix Mix (King Size).” These records further demonstrate his artistic growth, versatility, and willingness to experiment with different musical expressions while staying connected to his roots. With each release, he continues to expand his sound, strengthen his audience, and build a growing presence within Ghana's contemporary music landscape.

With a sound influenced by life, culture, and personal experiences, Gonaboy represents a new generation of Ghanaian musicians pushing beyond conventional boundaries. Driven by ambition, authenticity, and an evolving creative vision, he is steadily carving out his place as one of the emerging voices shaping the future of African music.
